Johanna was a midwife, and a pioneer doctor. "Johanna Brado" was found on a document as the mother's name for her daughter Mary Richard on a census. If "Brado" isn't Johanna's maiden name, it may possibly have been the surname of her first husband who died soon after marriage. (no information is known of her first husband.) It does appear that he immigrated to the USA and died soon after his arrival. No other information is known about Johanna before marriage except that she was from Hanover, German,, Anton may have immigrated about 1850. The 1860 US Federal census shows Johanna as living in Watertown, Ward 6, Jefferson, Wis. The 1880 and the 1885 US Fed. Census' show Johanna living in Fremont, Butler, Iowa.
